Four Motel Pools

Hi all, I have some more found photography to share, this time some sumptuous poolside scenes, probably from around the 1960s or so. I love how these postcards totally share the same photographic language, yet were made by entirely different photographers in different parts of the United States. I did a quick google and it seems there is a ton of information about these old postcards on the web. Otherwise get yourself to What Cheer Antiques at Wayland Square, or the Rhode Island Antiques Market in Pawtucket if you feel like poring through hundreds of old postcards...

This last one is my favorite - every person pictured here is playing a role. It makes for an elegantly composed tableau. I can almost see the photographer's assistants running around moving arms and rippling the water.

I know that Stephanie already posted about Marina but this show was just so insanely good I had to post again mostly as a platform to urge all of you to go and see it.

In this show Marina address the method of how one might go about a performance retrospective. It is a really well done show which incorporates recreation of her performances along with footage of the original pieces. At the same time Abramovic is also performing at the MoMA and you can watch live footage during museum hours here. I recommend looking through the entire website - watching her interviews.

New Topographics Photograph Site Map

The "New Topographics" show was curated by William Jenkins in 1975 and drastically altered the climate for contemporary photography. It featured artists Robert Adams, Lewis Blatz, Joe Deal, Frank Gohlke, Nicholas Nixon, John Schott, Stephen Shore, and Henry Wessel, Jr. The show was one of the most influential photography exhibitions of the medium's history.
