Aussie Up: Selina Ou

Although much of her work is made overseas, Selina Ou (b. 1977) is a young Melbourne-based photographer who makes some pretty cool environmental portraits. These are from her 'Chile' series, 2006-2007:





I like these quite a lot. When she travels, she manages to successfully avoid falling into cliched representations of the other. As a result, and because of the consistency of her aesthetic approach, there is a striking universal quality to her portraiture.
